Reflection:
Planning, creating and delivering a great lesson is something that all teachers strive to do, and this is exactly what I was able to do during my experience in Adapted Physical Education. With my student having special needs, particularly Autism, there were many personal and social behaviors that needed to be identified with learning goal needs. The IEP maps out my students needs in depth and what has to be done to make sure those needs are met. In order to implement effective strategies, you must identify what personal and social behaviors the student is capable of and where you want them to end up at the end of the semester. This is outlined in depth in the Individualized Education Plan that I created for my student. Along with his behavioral levels of performance, the IEP also goes into detail on how exactly those levels will be considered when designing tasks. Since I was able to get to know the student very well throughout the semester, I was able to modify lessons and activities to meet his needs. The Individualized Education Plan that I created for him, discusses the many details of how I modified activities, teaching style, and environment in order to give him the best opportunity for success.
